Metz: The food service serving Houghton

The current Metz logo

Houghton University has been place to many students from around the globe, as well as local residents as well. One thing to know about Houghton, however, is that the places to go for food are very limited. But thanks to the Metz Dining Service, Houghton University can supply its students with meals both familiar and new!

Metz allows for students to be apart of its workforce of diligent and hard working staff, where students of Houghton University can be anything from a dishwasher to a chef tasked with making the brick fired pizza for the night. Metz also allows non-students to work as well during the operating hours of Houghton University's dining hall.

A former student of Houghton University, Benjamin Marmor has worked both during his enrollment to the university and after, and has returned to work with Metz after graduating in 2023.

Marmor (pictured right), was asked about why he chose to work at Metz even after graduating from Houghton University the previous year.

"I worked a few shifts as a student and liked it, deciding to become full time when I could afford it in my schedule." Marmor replied, going further to state he also enjoyed the work environment Metz had produced while he is employed there.

"My coworkers are mainly quite friendly and we have a good bit of friendly banter. A couple are annoying at times. Rather a warm area most of the time." he added.

If you ask Houghton students about their experience with Metz, it can range from good reviews to wishful thinking and critiques. Marmor has encountered this as well, stating how he encounters both "disrespectful customers and coworkers" from time to time while on shift.

"Better managerial oversight would be helpful." Marmor said when asked if there was anything the Metz service could improve upon in order to let their employees work more efficiently.

Regardless of the customers and what Metz might need to improve, Marmor still appreciates working at the dining hall in the Campus Center. When asked about what he liked about working at Metz, he replied that he best enjoyed the friendly coworkers, working with people he knew, as well as the physical activity the job requires.

Metz Dining service is still employed by Houghton University at the time this blog was written, and is always hiring workers from both on and off campus to contribute to helping feed the students of Houghton University.
